Thanks to Nice Fucking Graphics, I had the chance to discover Little White Lies, a magazine all about cinema from our enemy brothers (that’s my French genetics talking) the UK.
Paul Willoughby gave birth to Little White Lies in early 2005 and since the beginning he gave it a special and personalised visual identity. The graphics will catch your eye and the many many articles, trailers, reviews… about films will keep you reading.
On their facebook page, they describe themselves as “LWLies is an independent movie magazine that employs cutting-edge writing, illustration and photography to get under the skin of cinema” and I think it’s totally appropriate.
I advise you check out their website where you’ll be able to buy the magazine or read it online.
Here are a few examples of frontpages they published in previous issues.
I just found out about an interesting street artist who apparently stroke London with his creations last year. Even though some of you might already know about him, let me show the rest of our humble visitors what this mysterious artist does.
I haven’t found much information about him (if you know something I don’t, feel free to feel me in). Basically, he removes the head of ad characters and replace them with…well… nothing, except a bit of blood. Many smiling ad faces have suffered the attack. Here are a few pretty good examples.
Danny Yount, designer specialised in making intros for famous shows and movies like Rock n’ Rolla, Iron Man, the Sopranos… (he even won an Emmy Award for Six Feet Under) shows us his showreel 09.
Tomorrow will be the last day of the year. I keep trying to realize but I think that in the end, I don’t really care…
If we did have 2 years left to live on Earth, maybe I would make big changes in my life, but let’s be realistic, the only good resolution I’m gonna make this year is to go to the gym once a week… And yeah, like every year, I’m still that naive…
Or maybe I’ll get even more optimistic:
- Stop asking myself silly questions about life all the time
- Tidy up my bedroom every day
- Eat more vegetables
- Definitely stop smoking (I went from 15 to 0,5 fags a day, that’s not bad right?)
- Write to my grandmother more often
-…
Many things changed for me this year, I don’t live in the same country, I’m gonna move in with the bf, I started working… It’s during these periods of change that we evolve and make decisions, not around a table with the belly full of chocolates and champagne…
I’m gonna leave you this year with this new Coke campaign that I found on Andrew Bannecker’s blog, which shows hope is overrated…
This week I was unfortunately sick and I had to stay home in order to get better and not to spread the vile desease to the population of Barcelona, who would like to be responsible for a pandemic, right?
The good news was that my flatmate brought home Guitar Hero 5, and it happened to be stronger than the fever.
Since its first appearance in 2006, the game has brought many moments of happiness and this new version feels even more sophisticated and adapted to our geeky needs.
A great playlist with 76 new songs, from Gorillaz to Rammstein, new challenges and the possibility for you and your friends to play the same instrument.
Besides, this time I know most of the songs and they even put my favourites like Make it wit chu by Queens of the Stone Age, Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down, Song 2 by Blur and many more!
This afternoon I stayed home and didn’t go to work because I finally caught the (in)famous flu. A or B, it gave me quite an annoying headache and I had to stay put either in bed or on the sofa. So I decided I’d give myself a treat and watch a classic: Silence of the Lamb.
By chance, and especially after hours of useless wandering on the Internet, the Empire gallery came up.
The Empire magazine celebrated its 20th birthday last july with a superb gallery showing icons of the cinema. These photos show them, with, of course, a few more wrinkles and remind us of the movies that made them famous. We can see Jodie Foster seperated by a glass from Anthony Hopkins (coincidence?), Christian Bale with an axe from American Psycho, Mel Gibson and his Braveheart’s sword etc etc
Recently, tv shows have undercome a real revolution and then changed into suspense-full, entertaining, quality products. The Shield for example is no Walker Texas Ranger and Buffy, even if it was great at the time, has been replaced by the excellent True Blood. Some of them require as much work as a movie and manage to hook hundreds of thousands of people.
I discovered on Fubiz a photographer called Gavin Bond who did many shooting sessions for famous tv shows and the result is really nice. Here are a few pics, but you can see the rest on his website.
I’m back on the blog to talk about the album I just bought. Chance does things well, it seems. I was just wandering in la Fnac among the many discount CDs and I found Them Crooked Vultures.
Looked nice, but I was surrounded by 6 or 7-euro-albums and this one was worth 15€ so why pay double?
Well,I caught a few names that sounded strangely familiar.Dave Grohl. Joshua Homme. John Paul Jones.
… After a few seconds I thought 2 things:
- Joshua Homme… definitely sounds familiar… OMG could Joshua be Josh ? The lead singer of Queens of the Stone Age?
- Dave Grohl, or God for some people, from the Foo Fighters, John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin and Josh Homme… this has to be awesome!
So I cut out on shit stuff I was going to buy and bought the album and God, it IS good.
The first song just punches you in a face and the whole album simply turns your boring comuting time into the best, most darkly energetic and pure quality music.
